The Quinta was opened for tourism as a small and personalized hotel in 1998, back then under the official designation of Turismo Rural (countryside tourism site). In 2011 Quinta Verde Sintra was awarded by the Instituto de Turismo de Portugal (the portuguese tourism authority) the new designation of Casa de Campo (countryside house), following the implementation of several measures intending to meet even higher standards.

Quinta Verde Sintra is a family project that started from the recovery of two old buildings in a piece of land under the possesion of the Sena family for decades. In the past the buildings provided support to agricultural and farming acitivities in the area. In fact, Casal da Granja, the "village" where the Quinta is placed, used to be a large farm, with extensive meadows, whose workers were dedicated to cereals production, livestock breeding and cheese making. Since 40 years ago, after the decline of agriculture in the region, the great farm was fragmented into smaller pieces of land that compose the actual Casal da Granja, a priviliged residential area of Sintra.

Quinta Verde Sintra has a total surface area of 15 thousand square meters, offering a large garden besides the buildings where the rooms and apartments are inserted.
